Soweto
Soweto is an urban area in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is mostly populated by black and colored South Africans. During 1976, the government of South Africa wanted to make Afrikaans the official language of the Banto schools. The children protested over this and some were killed and most were injured. The schools were closed down, giving the children more time to get into
more trouble. The children wanted a good education, but the government did not want smart blacks, because they would find away to make things equal. Kids boycotted school each year afterward in rememberance of the children that had died. Even though Soweto is a place it is also a movement that is known as 'Soweto'.
